[精] Understanding my Korean girlfriend
2007-10-25 13:01:39 本文已公布到博客频道文化·原创分类
I've learned a bit about Korean dating culture that I wish I'd known before, stuff I've never seen online. I'll share my stuff to promote understanding, and you do the same, and the world will become a better place for all involved. Also add in stuff about dating Korean mwomen that Western women (or men) may not have considered. (And I think I can trust the members of this board to keep this NPoV.)
  • As explored in another thread, I've discovered that Korean women expect to be taken home after a date, even if you're already at your home.
  • If your mom is home when she leaves, she will expect you to create an opportunity for her to say goodbye.
  • Never, ever tell your Korean girlfriend that she has a big head, even if you mean it in the sense of being a know-it-all, or having a big ego. If you accidentally do so, point her to this link to put out the fire:
  • 예프다 means "pretty," but it has other dimentions which relate to behaviour and personality and such. Unlike pretty which can only apply to women, flowers and sunsets, and the like, 예프다 can also mean "sweet" like being sweet to somebody. So, when she says, 예퍼죽겠지? fifteen times a day, she's not spoiling the mood by being vain and fishing for compliments on her looks; she's asking you to acknowledge that she just did something sweet for you. It means, "Aren't I just so sweet?"
  • 바보 literally means "fool," but when your girlfriend constantly calls you 바보 in a sweet way, she doesn't mean you're stupid. It's more like "silly." It has elements of 예프다 (see previous point). If she calls you 바보 it's more like call you a silly goose.
  • When she walks around going 아! 추워! ("I'm so cold!") and 배고파! ("I'm so hungry!") all the time, unlike Western women who would be complaining and expecting you to do something about it immediately, the Korean woman is merely letting you know how she's feeling that moment, and not necessarily expecting you to do anything about it, not being demanding. So, if she says she's hungry, then you decide to go to a restaurant, and on the way there, she keeps saying she's hungry, she's not being unreasonable, just talking to her boyfriend.
  • Just because she reads the Princess Diaries doesn't mean she's got 공주병 (Princess Disease). It's a common book for Koreans to read because of the simple themes and simple language.
