雄奇伟岸的玉龙雪山峙立于丽江古城北30公里处，因十三雪峰由北自南依次排列如巨龙腾飞而名。玉龙雪山南北长约35公里，东西约25公里，景区面积2600余公顷。主峰扇子陡海拔5596米，是长江南岸第一高峰，也是 北半球距赤道最近的现代海洋性冰川。

    玉龙雪山以险、奇、美、秀著称于世，气势磅礴，玲珑秀丽，随着时令和阴晴的变化，气象万千，风采卓绝，古往今来，令世人魂牵梦绕。玉龙雪山是纳西族传统文化中的神圣之山，纳西族的保护神“三朵”，就是玉龙雪山的化身。

   玉龙雪山旅游景区是当代丽江旅游开发和自然保护的核心区域之一，它已被列入国家级风景名胜区，国家首批AAAA旅游景区，省级旅游开发区和旅游度假区、自然保护区。

　　The much famed mountain is situated some 30 km, north of Lijiang County, located in the southern section of the Hengduan (transversely faulted) Mountain ranges. With thirteen peaks resembling jade pillars holding the sky, it stands majestically on the east side of the Jinshajing River. The main peak, Mount Fan (Shanzifeng), is 5,596m.above sea level,and is annually snowcapped.The summit's semblance to a crystalline jade dragon gives the mountain its name.
